The NETZSCH Group Acquires Holometrix Micromet from Metrisa, Inc., Boston


The NETZSCH Group announces the acquisition of Holometrix Micromet from Metrisa, Inc., Boston.  Holometrix Micromet, a leading manufacturer of instruments and provider of testing services for thermophysical properties and cure monitoring of advanced materials, will be merged with NETZSCH's worldwide Thermal Analysis business.

The new US company, NETZSCH Instruments, Inc., is headquartered in Boston, Mass., and is a member of the Analyzing & Testing business unit of the NETZSCH Group located in Selb/Bavaria, Germany.  NETZSCH Instruments, Inc. combines Holometrix Micromet with NETZSCH's US Thermal Analysis business. NETZSCH Instruments will offer the broadest range of products and testing services for Thermal Analysis and thermophysical characterization available, through its extensive US and worldwide sales and service network.  The Analyzing and Testing business of NETZSCH was created in 1952 and has established itself as one of the world's best-known suppliers of high-performance thermoanalytical instruments.

Major markets served include structural polymers and composites, aerospace materials, semiconductor and electronic packaging, automotive materials, insulations, and medical and pharmaceutical materials.  Traditional markets such as metals, refractories, building materials, glass and ceramics will be served with an even broader range of instrumentation and testing capability.  NETZSCH Instruments Inc., with a complete line of instruments for R&D, quality assurance, failure analysis, and process optimization, will be an ideal partner with academia and industry.

According to Dr. Wolf-Dieter Emmerich, Board of Directors, NETZSCH Holdings and CEO and President of NETZSCH Instruments, Inc., Boston, Mass., "The effects of synergies between NETZSCH and Holometrix Micromet are expected to be extremely high, particularly in the United States".

Holometrix, originally Dynatech Scientific, was founded over thirty years ago by faculty from Massachusetts institute of technology (MIT) to provide instruments and testing for measuring thermal conductivity.  Micromet Instruments was founded in 1982 from an MIT research group to provide instruments for cure monitoring.  Holometrix acquired Micromet Instruments in 1998.

Metrisa Inc. (OTC:MTRE), located in Bedford, Mass. is a leading provider of on-line process analytical instruments. Products are sold under the Tytronics (chemical analysis), Nametre (viscosity analysis) and Monitek (turbitity and suspended solids) names. Markets include chemical, petrochemical, refining, polymers, water and beverage.
